Strange, someone mention to me that we ready do not do much for the community and they are surprised that the city would take interest with us. WELL….

·         We sponsor students from Fletcher and Nease High School for Boys State & Girls State

·         We sponsor a Youth scholarship fund for the children of our Veterans

·         We sponsor youth sports such as our junior Baseball Team, and American Legion Baseball team

·         We support the Beaches Honor Guard

·         Every year we donate funds so that the 4^th Graders of Finnegan Elementary School can take a tour of Kennedy Space Center to learn about Our Space Program.

·         We award top students in four of our local elementary schools with school medals

·         We award scholarships to student nurses at FCCJ and UNF

·         We are a very active Special Olympics sponsor, local and state

·         We support the Children’s Miracle Network by having volunteers work the phone bank

·         We support the American Legion Legacy Fund, which helps provide education for the children of our troops who did not make it home.

·         Boys Scout (Unit 6 out of Arlington)

·         Junior ROTC out of Sandalwood

·         P.A.W.S. which provides Seeing Eye Dogs and Companion Dogs to our troops who have returned home and is in need of such companions.

·         We assist B.E.A.M. (Beaches Emergency Aid Management), 2^nd Harvest Food Bank, and needy families in our community with gifts of food.

·         We donate books to the Beaches Library

·         We aid our Veterans in Lake City VA hospital and those who walk in off the street.

·         We support our troops by sending packages to our oversea troops, and we also support the USO with their “No Dough” Dinners.

·         Have you seen our Little Toot at the Opening of the Beaches Parade, or at the local library with the kids?

·         Legion Riders, are part of our Post Family

·         We Support Jax Beach Hooked on Fishing/Not Drugs

·         We are an American Red Cross Shelter for Disaster Relief

·         We provide Blue Star Banners free for those who have love ones in the battle zones.

·         And so much more and we did this within the last 12 months.

Most of the funds for these and other projects are raised within our Post.  We have a Croaker Tournament every fall, a Dart League year round, Jerry Gordon’s Golf Tournament every spring.  Also Bar-B-Q’s such as the opening of the Beaches, Forth of July, and Labor Day, Meals every weekend, and Bingo.  We also receive donations from within our membership, but we do not receive funds from any Government Agency, WE RAISE THE FUNDS.  AMERICAN LEGION POST 129, YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF WHAT YOU DO.  For the year 2008 – 2009 we raised and gave over $52,000 to our community.
